German Translations of English Books in the Wild (2)

Since my post about English books in German translation was so popular last week, I went back to my local bookstore and took some more pictures.

So here we go!

First up, a lot of creepy eyes!

Michelle Zink's PROPHESY OF THE SISTERS (same title in German)
Suzanne Collins' HUNGER GAMES (German title THE TRIBUTES FROM PANEM - DEADLY GAMES)
Stephanie Meyer's THE HOST (German title SOULS)

Some lighter fare:

David Levithan and Rachel Cohn's NICK & NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST (German title NICK & NORAH - SOUNDTRACK OF ONE NIGHT)
E. Lockhart's THE BOYFRIEND LIST (German title 15 BOYS, 4 FROGS + 1 KISS)
Catherine Gilbert Murdock's DAIRY QUEEN (German title WE COWS)

And some heavier fare (I love how the flash came out in the shape of a fairy on the LAMENT cover):

Maggie Stiefvater's LAMENT (German title LAMENT - UNDER THE SPELL OF THE FAIRY QUEEN)
Mary E. Pearson's THE ADORATION OF JENNA FOX (German title TWO AND THE SAME - HOW MUCH OF ME AM I?)
Suzanne's LaFleur's LOVE AUBREY (German title I'M STILL HERE)

Next Wednesday I will post some adult titles. Any requests?

  2. Oofah, the Jenna title in translation really does not do it for me.

  3. Yan - The LAMENT cover is even more gorge in person, trust me.

Cuileann - It does feel really clunky...and gives too much away.

  4. I love these - the top 3 covers all look similar.

  5. No requests, but I'm still enjoying these titles. Some of them (like Jenna) are rather literal.

I like that LAMENT cover - I wish I could see it in person to compare it to the original cover.

  13. I definitely prefer the German cover of Prophecy of the Sisters. I really want to read the book but every time I go into the bookstore I get put off by the cover. Hence I'm waiting for the paperback release.

I love this cover post thing you have going on.

  18. Thanks for doing this again! I love the cover for Prophecy of the Sisters way more than the one in the U.S.

  19. I love the cover of Dairy Queen, and the title, We Cows!

In Australia we usually get the UK covers and the titles are (almost always) the same as the US titles. But recently I've been finding that certain titles just AREN'T being release here--even crazy popular books like Rampant! What might happen is when the US paperback is released, we'll get it here, but still. SOB. Same story with Nothing But Ghosts and Ice by Sarah Beth Durst. Lucky my library imports.

  20. These are FIERCE. I think I like the contemporary covers (Nick and Norah, Boyfriend List, Dairy Queen) the most. They're cute. :D But that is not how I pictured Ruby Oliver. o_O

I love the Lament and PoTS covers too though.

Not a fan of the Jenna Fox title- it's so long. O_O

I really don't like the Love, Aubrey cover, do you? & I have to get myself a copy of The Host for my collection.. the title is great!

  24. Maybe the lament cover had a spot-varnish fairy shape? If not that is very weird. But cool :)
