I actually covered this "books that make you weep" topic on the blog back in 2008 (is that 6 years ago? OMG) and those books still stand. I've reread DOOMSDAY BOOK by Connie Willis again since then, and yep, still made me cry. There are not that many books since then that have me reaching for the tissues, but I did manage to rustle up three more to add to the list (four if you count THE HUNGER GAMES).
IN THE SHADOW OF BLACKBIRDS by Cat Winters (my review)
CRACKED by K.M. Walton (my review)
NOT A DROP TO DRINK by Mindy McGinnis (my review)
And ... I cried while writing CHASING BEFORE ... does that count? ;)

Um, 2008 was 6 years ago, wasn't it? The only one of those books I've read is The Hunger Games and it didn't make me cry.
Awesome post, sweetie. <3 AH! In the Shadow of Blackbirds. <3 Perfect book. And so sad, yes! I cried too. Thank you for sharing :)
The Hunger Games - what an emotional roller coaster! I'm dying to read Not a Drop to Drink but I'm nervous to see that it made your list here!
It took a while for Not a Drop to Drink to get to me, because *EVENT* was so sudden. But once it hit, I was a wreck. I would think about it in the middle of the night and just cry.
I really need to get to The Doomsday Book!
Totally counts if you cry while writing your own book. Definitely. I admit, once I had to kill a character I loved so very much, not long before Christmas (reality Christmas...though I guess, also near Christmas in the book, too...huh), and I went out and bought a tree ornament meant for grieving parents to remember a child lost, and dedicated it to this character. It goes on my tree every year. :) Writers. We understand. :D
So, if you loved the Doomsday Book, have you read Willis's other work? Passage is definitely another tear-jerker, and I loved it. But then there's To Say Nothing of the Dog, which continues the time travel theme but is absolutely hilarious.
As for recent books that made me cry, Elizabeth Wein's Code Name Verity and Rose Under Fire were both amazing and had me sobbing.
I just got In the Shadow of Blackbirds out of the library. Looking forward to it (I'll buy another box of tissues, just in case!)
Doomsday Book! I own that but haven't read it yet. I wonder if I shall weep. I actually loved the scene that probably made most people cry in Not a Drop. Blackbirds was also no tears, but it WAS awesome. :-p
Loved NOT A DROP TO DRINK!!! Can't wait to read more.
