Postcards and a giveaway/contest!

I enjoy sending and receiving postcards and buying them for myself on my trips. They make great souveniers (evocative of the place and easy to carry) and once you get home, they also make great bookmarks.

I always make sure to send my Grandma Billie a postcard when I go somewhere - you should see her collection!

My personal postcard collection contains postcards from over 100 countries. Some have been sent to me by friends and have foreign stamps and postmarks (a real bonus in my opinion) like this one:

And some I picked up on my travels like this one:

Would you like to start or expand your postcard collection? Here's the deal: The first (10) people to send their snail-mail addresses to lenoreva AT hotmail DOT com will get a postcard from either Germany or The Netherlands (please indicate your preference in your e-mail and write POSTCARD in the subject line).

Plus leave a comment at this post by June 30th telling me about what you like to collect, and you will be entered into a drawing for a box full of yummy Euro treats (candy, chocolate, etc.)! I'll pick the winner July 1st, so leave me some way of contacting you.
Want extra entries? Blog and link back to the contest for 1 extra entry. Add me to your blogroll for 2 extra entries (if I am already on your blogroll, you get the extra entries too).

Let's see - you know what I collect. Longaberger baskets, Boyd's bears, BOOKS. That's about it.

I'll reference your post on my blog, and of course, you are already on my blogroll!

do my entries count even though you're my niece? Oh well, fun trying anyway.

Of course, Linda! The contest is open to everyone :)

I collect various things - Lucky Bear CareBears (both classic and current - I have about twenty-five) . . . actually, I collect most anything with a shamrock on it.

I don't really collect books since I buy them to read, but some of my books are worth around $200. I actually have some Nancy Drews that I believe are first editions, but I don't know what printing/etc. (Nancy Drew is hard to appraise without Farah's guide, which cost quite a bit itself.)

You can contact me at inbedwithbooks AT yahoo DOT com if I win, but I will be on vacation through the sixth.

This is such a cute idea! I don't collect postcards, but this sounds like fun!

I'll be posting about this on my blog first thing in the morning!

OK, you got me with the Euro treats.
What I like to collect (and you should appreciate this living in Germany) are Smurfs.
They just make me happy.
:)

Oh, I like this!

I've bought old postcards on e-bay and had them framed for decoration - Boston Public Garden, Park Street Church, Princeton University.

Postcards are good for putting in scrapbooks, too (in case you just can't capture that perfect photo!)

I collect (not overwhelmingly so...) memorabilia of Boston, "wind up" clocks, and old embroidered linens. Oh, did I mention books!?!?

I'll post your contest on my blog!

I used to collect beanie babies, so did my mom. We have like three big totes full of beanie babies. It's so funny. We don't even get them out anymore, what a waste, lol.

Thats so cool that you collect post cards.

Now I'm collecting books though, I loooove books =)

I guess you could say I collect paper. Handmade, roughly hewn, bright and busy, subtle and soft, sparkly--I love it all!

Hey, thanks for the incredibly smart and flattering review, by the way. Also, I'm glad you liked the bit of my paper collection that came your way!

Oops, didn't mean to publish that comment as "anonymous." I guess I'm still half asleep!

Oh I'm too late :( Great contest though. Postcards are so cool. I have a few from New Orleans and Biloxi from before Hurrican Katrina. I seem to collect books though I do have a few beautiful Disney snowglobes and ornaments :)

I won a contest from someone in Austria a few months ago and she sent me some Euro candy. My favorite candy is now Ferrero Garden (lemon) and Mars Delights but of course they don't have them in the United States!

I collect pretty rocks and shells. I also seem to collect paper and yarn, but those officially have uses and sometimes my collection runs low.

ikkinlala said...

Oops, I forgot to leave contact info (it's in my profile, though). If I'm your lucky winner, you can e-mail me at ikkinlala AT yahoo DOT ca. I'm not sure if I'll be home on the 1st as it's a holiday here, but I should be back by the 2nd or so.

I love New York City, so I collect books on the city's history. The Strand on Broadway is a haven for me, 'cause of all the NYC history books! Love!

I also collect figurines of nuns.

I know, that one's odd. But I like nuns.

I've been collecting music boxes since I was about 8-years-old. My first one was a jewelry box with a clown that danced when it played "Send in the Clowns". I have a couple that are over 100 years old, one is a candy dish and the other held face powder. One of my favorites is a German house (the kind in the mountains) that I bought at a flea market for a couple bucks, but it's worth a WHOLE lot more. :-D

PS.. In case it gets me an extra entry, my birthday's June 29th. :-))

I collect: books (particularly Canada-related and from the late 1800s-early 1900s--my oldest book so far is a hardcover from 1888, and I have a bunch that are pre-1930--though I collect tons of others, too, especially hardcover first editions); plushies; turtles; huskies and Alaskan Malamutes; pins (instead of postcards); hats; salt-and-pepper shakers; music boxes; Japanese pencil boards and various anime art books and plushies; dragons...and I think that's all, though I can't say for sure--most of my stuff is in storage at the moment!

Oh, and if you want to contact me for any reason, my e-mail is finvic @ gmail.com (minus the spaces, of course!).

Lol, I've gone through so many phases of collecting... I used to collect those little metal tabs that you pull off of soda cans... Why? I have no idea. I've collected rocks, shells, movie tickets, and actually have a pretty impressive coin collection.

Besides all that, I like many of the others here collect books. But the main thing I collect right now are snowglobes. I just love them!

Sounds like a great contest! I'll add you to my blogroll, although you're already on my LT bloggers page, and I'll blog about the contest if I get a chance :)

oh my goodness...euro treats! I want to eat them now. When I think of my youth in Spain, the candy is something that really stands out, it is so fresh, all unwraped little treasures of goodness....ahhhh drooling yes.

what do i collect then? huh, well right now I am collecting chickens..yes live chickens. I started off telling myself they were just for eggs, and we would need 3 for our family, now once they all mature I will have enough eggs to feed a multitude. Since I don't have any official collections (beyond the obvious: books!!) that must be it right now. I have 4 different breeds, and I have 14 so far...I think we are done collecting until we move to the country. if you are interested in them I talk about them a ton on my personal blog. (you can get there by going to my page and clicking on the "life" button up top)

anyway...If I win the treats I PROMISE to not share even a nibble with my chickens!

Lenore - I received the beautiful postcard of *Schloss Neuschwanstein* - thank you! Even the stamp is gorgeous (it's a "bleeding heart" flower).

You've inspired me to send out 10 local postcards as well. If you want to click the "contact" tab on my home page and give me your mailing address, you'll get one of course!
