I am a huge fan of outdoor museums - I've been to "old" towns with actors in Denmark, Japan, Germany and even Wichita (Cowtown with a "real" saloon shoot-out). So I'm intrigued by Pastworld - especially since some of the inhabitants don't seem to realize they are acting...read on:
(Summary from the Fall 2009 Bloomsbury catalog)
Eve is a pastworld inhabitant who has no idea the modern world exists until she meets Caleb, a tourist from the present, whose visit goes horribly wrong when he finds himself accused of murder. Both Caleb and Eve have roles to play in the real murderer's diabolical plans - roles that reveal disturbing truths about their origins.
Narrow escapes, dark secrets, and moments of strange beauty converge to create a picture of a fascinating world within a world - and to offer a profound look at the thinning line between entertainment and reality.
PASTWORLD will be released in the UK in October and in the US in November. Visit the Pastworld website for a closer look!

This sounds awesome. I love the Victorian Era, so so I'm quite intrigued.
Aamzing find. This book sounds great.
Sounds like another YA book I read awhile ago: Margaret Petersen Haddix's Running Out of Time. it was about a girl who had believed she was living in an 1830 frontier village until people started getting sick and her mother sent her to the outside world (where it was 1996) to get medicine. If you're thinking that sounds like M. Night Shyamalan's The Village, you're right - Peterson and her publishers almost sued for plagiarism.
This sounds awesome! What a great idea for a story.
We have two of those living museums in our area - one is a Gaelic/Highland heritage farm (43 acres!) and the other is a recreation of 19th century Canadian community. They are both really fun.
Sounds really good! Going on my wishlist.
Hadn't heard of it but sounds great
This sounds like a really cool book and reminds me of an episode of Sliders I saw once that had something like a Victorian London theme park. Everyone there worked like 90 hrs a week, even the kids, and when they'd crack under the pressure they'd send them to solve the Whitechapel murders and help Sherlock Holmes.
not my kind of book but the cover is interesting. I might try picking this one up. I need to broaden my range of books!
Definitely intriguing! Thanks for posting about it. :)
I need to go through all of my catalogs and start doing this. I never know where my time goes. Maybe I should keep a log.
This sounds kind of like an updated "Running Out of Time" by Margret Peterson Haddix. I will definitely check this one out-it sounds really awesome!
This sounds like a book I'd really enjoy! Great Pick!
